Analyst (Instrumentation – GC/GCMS)
Key Responsibilities:
1. Analytical Operations
- Perform routine and non-routine analysis using GC/GCMS as per prescribed test methods and within stipulated Turn-Around-Time (TAT).
- Ensure compliance with method-specific requirements, calibration, and analytical quality control protocols.
- Review, validate, and approve analytical data in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) or sample management software.
2. Documentation & Quality Compliance
- Maintain all analytical records, logbooks, calibration charts, and instrument usage logs in line with ISO 17025, GLP, and internal SOPs.
- Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), test methods, and specifications relevant to GC/GCMS analysis.
- Report, document, and assist in closure of non-conformances, deviations, and out-of-specification (OOS) results.
3. Instrument Maintenance & Calibration
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and in-house calibration checks of GC/GCMS and associated sample preparation equipment.
- Coordinate with instrument vendors for annual maintenance contracts (AMC) and service visits, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Attend to instrument breakdowns with service engineers and maintain proper service records.
4. Standards & Reference Material Management
- Prepare, standardize, and maintain stock and working standards, CRMs, and SRMs used in GC/GCMS analysis.
- Monitor validity and usage of CRMs; ensure timely procurement and proper storage.
- Conduct intermediate checks and maintain trend data for reference materials and instruments.
5. Training & Supervision
- Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to junior and trainee analysts on GC/GCMS operation, troubleshooting, and data interpretation.
- Ensure adherence to 5S principles, laboratory safety, and good housekeeping practices within the instrumentation section.
6. Resource & Audit Management
- Ensure adequate availability of gases, columns, reagents, consumables, and spares required for GC/GCMS operation.
- Participate and represent the section during internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
- Support the Assistant Manager in method development, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- B.Sc or M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry / Instrumentation / Organic Chemistry or equivalent.
- 2–5 years of hands-on experience in GC and GCMS operation and maintenance in an ISO 17025 accredited or GLP-compliant laboratory.
- Sound knowledge of analytical method validation, troubleshooting, and chromatographic data interpretation.
