World Environment Day, as observed every year on June 5th, was established by the United
Nations to raise global awareness and drive action for environmental protection. In 2025, the
focus is clear: turn the tide on plastic before it turns irreversible. Since the inception of World
Environment Day in 1973, it has grown into a global movement, mobilizing governments,
NGOs, businesses, and millions of individuals to stand up for the planet. The theme for 2025
focuses on plastic pollution because its consequences are now impossible to ignore: overflowing
landfills, toxic waterways, marine deaths, disrupted food chains, and microplastics in human
bloodstreams.
Plastic is not a convenience anymore but a major pollutant of the environment and an even
harmful poison for the humans. This year’s theme is not just a hashtag; it’s the need of the hour.
